In the latest attack on women’s reproductive rights blowhard Rush Limbaugh went on his infamous radio show this week and blasted the young Georgetown Law student denied the opportunity to testify before the Republican committee “investigating” access to contraception. He went so far as to call Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute” for wanting access to birth control.
So, a woman who wants the right to control her OWN body is now a slut?
I’ve said it before and I will say it again, I find it fascinating that a group that holds steadfast to “moral values” constantly has sex on the brain. There are a myriad of reasons why women use birth control (sex being only one of them)—they would know this of course if they believed in science and/or actually had a uterus.
When I listened to the radio clip I was outraged but not surprised. Conservatives have always believed that access to birth control would create a sex-driven society and a bunch of pregnant teens. Contrary to popular conservative beliefs America will not turn into a Girls Gone Wild video with access to contraception. What it will do however is allow women to protect their bodies and control their reproductive health.
Prayer and aspirin don’t prevent AIDS, STDs, or pregnancy!
In the eyes of conservatives, women are sheep who need the guidance and protection of men. We couldn’t possibly know what’s best for us— faced with such hard decisions we could faint or worse cry! *side-eye*
I don’t know about you but I’m not interested in living in a “Daddy-State”! This isn’t 1950 and women as well as men should be outraged by Rush’s insane accusations and the behavior of these so-called contraception “experts”. Enter President Obama stage left. The President was so outraged by Rush’s accusations that he phoned Sandra to apologize for his unjust attacks against her. Yet, there has been silence from the Republican Presidential candidates. I take their silence as a ringing endorsement of Limbaugh and his distorted views on women.
Make no mistake, conservatives have been dolling out nothing but warning shots over the past few months…giving us a glimpse into what their America will look like—and there is not enough aspirin in the world that could dull that type of pain.
November’s choice is not just between two people it’s between two ideologies. One that believes together we can create a “more perfect union” and one that longs for the golden days of yesteryear—where Mad Men and The Help weren’t just on your screen they were on your street.
So, the choice is yours…but be warned that making the wrong choice could be bad for your [reproductive] health!
