On Saturday May 5th threeLOL’s very own Aisha Moodie-Mills made her fabulous (I’m biased but it’s true *wink*) national television debut on the Melissa Harris Perry Show on MSNBC!
For the first time ever, the issues facing black gay Americans made national news–in no small part to the Center for American Progress’s FIRE Initiative lead by the savvy Polinista-in-Chief, Aisha. She dispelled the myth that “black equals straight and white equals gay”, the conversation that the so-called National Organization for Marriage organization (NOM) has been pushing.
Melissa Harris Perry laughed at the assumption and said “the idea that queer people don’t exist in the black community is ridiculous”. Aisha went on to explain that as a black lesbian she lives at the intersection of both communities.
Check out the first clip here:
The conversation lasted for 30 minutes! Invisibility is one of the major issues that black gay Americans face, so to have this conversation go on for so long on such a big network was amazing.
Here’s the rest of the Black Vs. Gay segment:
The action didn’t stop there. Aisha came back for another segment to discuss Obama 2012 and what he needs to do in order to win come November. What does Obama need to do to win? Keep moving forward of course!
Watch as Aisha gives us the skinny on the Republicans backwards thinking:
And we’re off to the races…which political ads reign supreme and who needs to go back to the drawing board? Find out what Aisha and the other panelists had to say below:
The show was fantastic and so was the staff. All in all it was a one-of-a-kind experience…that we hope to do over and over again! Watch out world–the Moodie-Mills’ are ready for their close-up *wink* Check out our behind the scenes action shots below.
Nerdland was EVERYTHING! From the wonderful producers and staff to Melissa Harris-Perry herself the experience was a polinistas dream come true. That’s a wrap–for now *wink*
